How many of you got this in the mail this week? I did! And guess what? I have a small, cute and easy project in this issue! And I bet you have everything you need to make it right at home because it is *scrappy*, like most of the stuff I make. No, mine is not on the cover, but when you open the cover you will be blown away by all the cuteness in this magazine! Yeah, I love that cover quilt too.

This is a great issue! It has so many cute projects in it
that I don't know where to begin!

Well, let's begin with mine! I hope you like it. This is a version of the one in the magazine. To see the actual one that was published check out the link to their website shown below. This one is smaller. Isn't it sweet?
Here is a photo PQ and P sent me to use on my blog.

My friend Kimber has two darling projects in here as well! She designs the cutest pincushions! Also she is an editor in a variety of magazines, including this one! Check out Kimber's Blog! See her talent for yourself!

A little time for a little quilt

We all lament the passage of time and I am no exception. Where does it go? It evaporates into space and leaves us wondering. I truly feel that the older you get the faster time flies. I can't prove it, but ask anyone of a certain age and they will testify as I have--it's next week already! The past few weeks have been filled with doctor appointments as my husband and I prepare to use our insurance while we still have it. He is trying to retire, but doesn't feel comfortable about it until he knows that my voice problem has been resolved. So tomorrow I go in for that surgery that I mentioned a few months back. I can't wait to get this over and out of the way. My grandchildren are beginning to make fun of me! We were doing 'facetime' on our phones the other day--the kids love that. All of a sudden Isaac (age 3) began talking funny. My husband picked up on it right away and had a good laugh.

After thumbing through my Primitive Quilts and Projects magazines I decided to make this little quilt by Lisa Bongean from Primitive Gatherings. This is from the Summer 2011 Issue. I love a little wool with scraps! I feel very happy picking up small projects right now. And I love playing with scraps. I pretend that I am cleaning up in my sewing room if I sew any small scraps together! I have so many little pieces laying around that it is like a scrappy blizzard in there.

This little quilt is the remains of a class I taught for my Old Elegance quilt. I made several blocks to demonstrate color options and to show how to use the Tri-Recs Tool for the star points. Since I just had nine blocks I added a sawtooth border to finish it. I think I would have gone on to make another whole quilt if I had more of that plaid that I used in the 9-patch block. But now it will be a table topper or wall quilt. You can see another color option of this design on Patchalot Patterns Facebook page. JoAnne at the Patriotic Quilter was in my class and her quilt turned out great! By the way, if you go to that Facebook page be sure and hit LIKE will you?

So many great things going on with quilters these days. I really love what Rose Mary has done with her favorite star. Take a look at Applique 'n Patch for an eyeful of her talent and skill in design! What a delight it is to meet so many wonderful quilters and peek in on them as they share their projects!

Hopefully more next week from me after a bit of down time.

More from Quilt Market 2012

I am back home in Virginia Beach for a few weeks. I haven't been on line much, and you may have seen tons of photos from Quilt Market already, but I have more to show, so check it out!
Meet Becky Delsman of Plays with Wool Designs.
I got to meet Becky and her partner Kim Schueffner at their booth at market. You may recognize the project she is holding, "the Great Pumpkin" from the Fall 2012 issue of this magazine below--Primitive Quilts and Projects. This is such a stunning wool project. You can order a kit at the Plays with Wool website. Order now and you will have it ready for next fall!

This magazine is, of course, everyone's favorite! I am excited to tell you that I have another project coming up in this magazine next year. Below is a photo of me with "the Prim Sisters", as Kimber likes to call them. Jeni, me, Judy and Gretchen! Their booth was close to mine and I ran into them every day. These sisters got the magazine going and it took off like a shot last year. If you can't find it in your LQS, look at Barnes and Noble, or even better, get a subscription! Be sure and tell them that I sent you! Follow the link: Primitive Quilts and Projects.

I love meeting people at market that I "know" but haven't had the pleasure of meeting. Above is Kathy from the Cottage at Cardiff Farms. I bet you have seen her work in magazines, etc. I was definitely a pleasure to meet Kathy. My friend Joan kept raving about her booth and so I went to see her. She is so nice and so full of talent. You have to check out her website and see the great projects she has available.
This is my dear friend Janna from Bloc-Loc Rulers. I met her and her husband Paul in Houston two years ago when their booth was close to mine. Now we are always so delighted to run into one another. Their business is going like crazy and I LOVE their products. If you go to their website you can see the nifty rulers they have created for trimming down small blocks. I use them all the time because I love perfection! And these rulers give you that. I wrote about them previously HERE.

This final photo for today is from the Marcus Fabrics booth. You know I love Marcus fabrics, and Judie Rothermel is at the top of my list. You can follow the link to their website and peruse the wonderful fabric lines that they have out. You can also download these fabrics to EQ7 if you have it and see what they look like in your quilt designs. Love that!

Photo Shoot at Stoney's

Yesterday was such a beautiful day here in Virginia Beach. I had a few errands to run and thought I would first go to Stoney's outdoor produce market. It is always so gorgeous there in the fall. I had two quilts with me and hoped to do a little photo shoot to try and capture pictures for pattern covers. The lighting was perfect in the shade and they always have great props around. I really hope they don't mind me doing this. I always ask someone for permission and they are agreeable, but then others look at me like--what does she think she is doing? I hate to intrude on the property of others, but seriously, I get the best photos there! And I always buy stuff before I leave. I bought half a dozen pots of pansies for the front yard. They are lovely.

This is so frustrating! Blogger doesn't want my photo to be right side up. But try and look at the cute accessories around this place.

While at Stoney's I met a fellow quilter. I didn't know her before, but she saw me with my quilt and stopped to talk. Her name is Tiffany McPherson. She used to own a quilt shop, The Velvet Thread, in Elizabeth City. I bet some of you know her. She was there with her husband and grandchildren. Grandmas just don't look like grandmas anymore! Sorry, this photo flipped also. Aargh!  Anyway, it's always nice to find a friend lurking in the pumpkins!

Their pumpkins and squash are amazing, and all different kinds. I thought these paint spattered looking ones were cool.
Cute little gift shop within. A few old and weathered items for sale as well. My quilt, Old Soul, was arranged in several locations. It looks good with the fall items. Remember Old Soul from the spring edition of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine? They have another project of mine coming up that I hope you will like! Maybe it is in the new issue that I am hoping to receive soon.

I have ordered covers for patterns for these quilts and they will be available soon!

Old Soul

Where have I been? Still in Arizona, if you can believe it. I have a house here in Mesa that I mentioned months ago, and we are very slowly, as money permits, trying to restore it to livable condition. It all takes time, but hopefully we will enjoy it when it is finished. Meanwhile my wonderful daughter-in-law provides me with a room and I occasionally cook something for dinner. Not well known for my culinary skills.

But that all is minor news compared to this!  I have a quilt appearing in the Spring issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects! Yes, it's true! First off, let me say what an exciting new magazine this is. They have only been publishing for one year and their issues have been filled with top notch designers that we all admire, including, but not limited to, Lynda Hall, Cheri Payne, Gloria Parsons, Lisa Bongean and now ME!

Here is my quilt, OLD SOUL. I have to say that this is one of the most fun quilts I have ever made. I began it while at my daughter's house and so I dug into her scraps, most of which were my old scraps. Then I came home and added some of my newer scraps. So it is really a mish mash of fabric all tied together with a Jan Patek fabric that I used for the alternate plain squares. But wait, I ran out of that fabric and had to use an additional fabric in a few squares, so all the plain squares don't match. I seriously felt like a pioneer woman, tho I doubt they had this much fun. To top it off, my quilt was beautifully quilted by Rosemary Skinner of Virginia Beach, VA.

If you don't already have a subscription, jump onto the Primitive Quilts and Projects site and get one now! They have offered to give you a free pattern if you subscribe for a year, and two free patterns if you subscribe for two years. Just mention my name, Marcie Patch. There is a comment box when you subscribe. You might also mention that you want to see lots more of my quilts in the future. Just a thought.

Kits will be available from the Fat Quarters Quilt Shop in Vista, CA.  Phone:760-758-8308. They also have kits for OLD ELEGANCE--photo on side bar. Check out their website after you order your subscription!
