I thought I would share two favorite recipes of mine. My reputation as a cook is minimal, so you can bet that my favorite recipes are easy ones!
Because I didn't think to take photos earlier, this is what is left of the ham quiche. I dolled it up with accessories for the photo. The creamer in the picture is one that belonged to my grandmother and it displays a portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth commemorating a royal visit to Canada in 1939.Just thought I would throw that in due to the recent festivities.
According to my recipe card I got this recipe in 1984 from WCCO radio in Minneapolis, MN. We didn't find things on line back then, so they had a home economist on the radio to inform us. Joyce somebody, I think. This is such an easy recipe and great if you have some leftover ham. I have change the filling to my liking.
HAM QUICHE use 9" partially baked pie shell
Beat together 1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup,
4 eggs, beaten. 1/2 cup light cream (I used skim milk)
In the bottom of the pie shell place 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 4 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 cup or so of chopped ham, about a cup or so of cooked broccoli heads. Pour the mixed liquid into pie crust over the filling and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Test to be sure it is done. Let sit for a few minutes before cutting. Yum!
And this is what is left of the peanut butter Rice Krispie bars. I got this recipe from a friend in about 1970. It quickly became a family favorite.
PEANUT BUTTER RICE KRISPIE BARS
In a large sauce pan mix 1/2 cup sugar with 3/4 cup light corn syrup. Bring to a boil to melt sugar, but don't over boil or it turns the bars hard. Take off the heat and stir in 1 cup of peanut butter until melted. Add 6 cups of Rice Krispies. Mix together and pat into a 9x 13 pan.
Melt 6 ounces of chocolate chips and 6 ounces of butterscotch chips together (I do this in the microwave). Spread over the top of the bars. When the chocolate sets, cut into pieces and serve. Listen to the crowd go wild!
Additionally, these can be shaped. My DIL shapes it into a football each year for their super bowl party. Shape it into a teddy bear, or birthday numbers, etc. Or just make it in a pan like I do!
And now for a quick pic of how our darling little twins are growing! They look like they have been eating quiche and Rice Krispie bars! But no, their mama is actually providing enough milk for both of them. Apparently they have good eats too! They are thriving!

TALKING TURKEY

I don't know if you can see how cute this little pincushion is, but I just love it! When I was at The Quilted Apple in Phoenix they had a table full of cute wool pin cushions.
"Where's the book?" I cried! There is no book, they were designed by a staff member and sold only as kits.
I bought a chicken, a pumpkin, and three turkeys! I had to get one for each of my two quilt buddies, of course! The kits are great! Each kit contains the wool pieces, all cut to shape; Perle cotton coordinating thread, a needle, and two straight pins for positioning. Plus, there is a little bag, cut and stitched to fit, filled with crushed
walnut shells as the pin cushion filler! They calledit "lizard litter", which, I guess means something if you live in Arizona. I'm clueless. Here is a picture of the cute little package. Obviously irresistible!
I picked up a pattern while I was at The Quilted Apple, which I worked on while at my son's house and am finishing up here. It is a wall quilt (have I already used the "padded room" joke here?) It needs a bit of applique and then I can sew the blocks together. Maybe I will have it ready to show in a couple days.
I have a quick recipe to share, one that my aunt made while I was in AZ. I think it is called Corn Pudding. We go for easy, right? So here you go:
1 - 16-1/2 oz can of whole kernel corn
1 - 16-1/2 oz. can of creamed corn
1 pkg. Jiffy Corn Bread/Muffin Mix
1 stick melted margarine
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
Mix all together, adding sour cream last.
Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Try it as a side dish, or on top of chili it's yummy!
