SWEET LITTLE GIFTS

 

Thursday was a sweet and peaceful day as I gathered with two friends for lunch, visiting, and a gift exchange. These are the sweetest gifts because we all love the same things and that makes it fun to give and fun to receive! Joan made us each the darling little framed log cabin block. Isn't it adorable?!

Sue made each of us this really great sewing kit. Opened you can see all the pockets for various items. The flaps fold down to cover things while it is folded. A small cutting mat fits in the back pocket and a 4" square ruler will fit in the right square pocket. Sue has been teaching this as a class at the LQS and everyone loves it! Joan and I have been wanting to make this but now we have one made by the expert! Isn't it great!

  

This is the little quiltlet that I made for each of them. I made the hourglass blocks with 5" squares, and the simple applique is wool, ala Cheri Saffiote Payne. What a fun day we had!

FRIENDS AND FUN STUFF

I can't remember if I showed the above photo before, and I am too lazy to check back through my blog right now. These are my friends here at home that I pal around with when possible.  The photo shows Sue, me and Joan at the Olde Green Cupboard booth at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest. We just couldn't get enough of that booth! Gloria, the shop owner, and the other gals there, were just so friendly and fun that we wanted to keep hanging out with them. Also, notice that they made up my Indian Paintbrush pattern (in background) and had kits! They are traveling around to different shows, so if you see them in a show near you, stop by and say hello, and buy a kit! Yes, I am shameless, but truthfully, they had other really great kits too. So you could buy Indian Paintbrush and another kit as well!This darling notebook was made for me by my friend Sue. Wool applique, as you can see. It is darling! Don't we all love friends who know just what we like?!

And just to prove that I have been sewing, or at least I was sewing before the wedding, here is a little progress that I have made on my House Sampler quilt. This is a pattern by Cheryl Wall of Country Quilts. Follow that link to see some of her beautiful creations. 

I am still suffering from the illness attacked me in Montana. Oh, I haven't even mentioned Montana. I drove with my daughter and grandkids back to Missoula after the wedding. I will have to remember to share more of that when my brain clears.  Meanwhile, I need to grab a diet coke and go back to the sewing room and get busy! Ideas are brewing in my brain. Are they real or delusions brought on by illness? Wait and see!

NEEDLING

Do you have a friend who is constantly needling you, and not in a quilty way? Meet Kim! Kim is my blog buddy, whom I have never had the pleasure of meeting. She makes me laugh at the insane comments that she makes, both on her blog and mine. But that is not enough for her, nooooo, she has to thread her way into my life through e-mails, accosting me even further. I made the mistake of suggesting to her on one occasion (or maybe several) that my age is becoming an inhibiting factor. Once in a while I forget things. Not like Darlene, mind you, who forgets she has scissors clamped in her teeth. Well, I once went to a quilt class and totally forgot to take my sewing machine, but luckily I discovered that I had taken the class before, so I just enjoyed the social aspect of it. (True story).

But enough about me, let's get back to Kim. I said to Kim that I have so many project ideas floating around in my head, and not enough time for follow through. Kim says, "The problem is that it takes a lot more time to make a quilt than it does to think up the ideas! Of course, age may take care of that eventually! LOL!" No matter how you read that it sounds like she is sticking it to me. Believe me she has made many other comments to me as well, but of course they slip my mind at the moment. Actually, that point illustrates one of my really good characteristics: I never hold a grudge for long.

Seriously folks, I gotta get some of that Memory Foam I keep hearing about!
