My
dear friend Karen Mowery passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, just
one year after being diagnosed with cancer. It was a really tough year
for her and she was sick for most all of it from the treatments she went
through. She went peacefully, and her wonderful son Timmy was with her at the end, as he has been all along. He was her greatest joy and treasure.
Karen was always reluctant to have her picture taken, so I scanned this from her beautiful book, A Bountiful Life, published by Kansas City Star.
My one comfort is that I know she is in another realm where there is no pain and love will surround her, and peace will comfort her.
I know that we have many quilting friends in common and you will feel her loss as well. She was a person of enormous talent and also of great humility. She took joy in her artistic pursuits and had so much left to offer. I am sure that our Heavenly Father has a whole new palette of color to offer her.
I will miss her every day.

My heart is weeping with the loss of such a wonderful and talented lady! May she rest in peace.
:-(
OH Marcie. I am so very sorry. I have her quilt "A bountiful life" started and not finished, but have all the fabric for it. I just know Timmy must be devastated, and my prayers are with him...thank you for this post.
Marcie, I read Timmys post from Karens blog. I never knew her but we all touch one another through our quilting and beliefs.
I'm sorry you have lost a dear irreplaceable friend but her legacy will live on.
I had sent Karen an email two weeks ago and just knew when I didn't dear back from her. I'm thankful you let us know she is no longer suffering and at peace. She was an amazing quilter with so many projects to conquer...I bet she quickly finds a heavenly quilt shop to stitch with her angel friends.
Will you be helping Timmy? Bless his heart..Karen has a wonderful friend in you and that must be comforting to him.
A nice post, Marcie, but a sad one. This answers why she had not replied to my last two e-mails. She had so much talent and much yet to share.
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Thanks for sharing the link to her blog. I have enjoyed seeing her work. She will live on in her quilts.
Heartbreaking news, for you and her friends, for her son and family, for all of us. Sending you hugs of sympathy, you are such a a wonderful friend! The quilt world has lost a talented inspiration and heaven has gained a shining angel.
Sorry to hear of your friend's passing. Thinking of you and praying for you Marcie.
Marcie, I'm so sorry to hear the news about Karen. I will miss her, too.
Marcie my heart goes out to you. Thanks for sharing the nice post with us. Prayers or her friends and family.
Such a sad loss of someone who brought so much to the quilting world. She was so proud of her son and I'm glad he was able to be with her through the worst of it. A lovely tribute Marcie, thank you for letting us know.
Oh my, this hits home. My DH passed away in Aug. after fighting a malignant brain tumor for a year. Karen and my DH are in a better place but we are left here without them. My heart hurts for Timmy as I know how he feels.....
I read her last post about her choice to end treatment after suffering so greatly, and had hoped she would survive a bit longer than the several months she mentioned. The quilting community is depleted by the loss of this lovely woman--but through friendships she will live on in memory.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. She seems like a very devoted mother and a beautiful quilter. I wish I'd have known her.
When you posted the news on facebook, I literally burst into tears. This dear lady was such an inspiration to all of us. Whether we commented regularly or only when Rembrandt posts came around as I often did. She was such a dear and talented lady who worked so very hard for all of her life. My heart hurts for all who loved her but I am so grateful she had you in her life, Marcie. You understood and you made a difference in her life as you and she have in all of ours. I will keep Timmy in my heart and in my prayers.
I only knew Karen through her blog but loved her stories and quilts. I was so sad when I read the note from her son. She was a beautiful person.
I was a loyal follower of her blog and when I read Tim's post I teared up with sorrow. I was fortunate enough to win one of the quilts that Tim put up for auction and will treasure it. What has become of Rembrandt?
