THE AGING PROCESS

We had another big storm last night. Our deck, which is covered by a roof, was totally soaked. All our wicker furniture and cushions was covered, fortunately. But sitting on the table was my cute little red, white and blue quilt with a plant on it. Last summer this little quilt sat on the table all summer and when fall rolled around, I took the plant off it to bring it in the house and noticed that the center was rotted! I had the plant sitting in a clay saucer, but apparently they are more porous than I realized. Oh, my poor little quilt! I had planned to do some sort of repair job this past winter, but that never happened. Summer came and I put it out on the table again, with the rotted center covered by a plant. How ingenious.

Well, my poor little quilt took another hit. It was dripping wet from the rain when I brought it in the house, and the red fabric was bleeding. Sigh! Now I will try to save it once again. Spray n Wash all the red stains and throw it in the wash with a load of darks and a dye catcher sheet. Hope for the best. The worst that can happen is that it will come out looking like an old quilt. How bad is that? I love old quilts!

Here's hoping a nice bath will only improve the appearance, it always works for me! ;)

Oh Marcie, what a cute little quilt and a little bit of a bummer, too. But you're right about loving the old quilts. The old quilts, the old treasures in our lives. The things that have been through the wringer a time or two.

Character. We like quilts with a little bit of life in them, a little bit of rain soaked love isn't anything but a charm! So we'll let you work your own charm and let us know how the quilt shows it's brilliance after you work your magic!

I bet that little quilt is happy to have a rotted spot and some red bleed to it. It just shows that it's been used and loved which all a quilt really asks for from life *s*

It's a wonder it's not more faded. Good luck refreshing it.

Marcie, I love your little quilt. The colors are perfect for summer. I know you can "patch" this little one up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. We all have this happen at one time or the other so don't fret.

Love your little quilt. It's a tough cookie. In the future you might want to keep a small bottle of Synthrapol on hand. It will 'lift' the red out of your white and leave it all like new. It's a marvelous thing! Retayne does the opposite - makes those bright colors stick where they belong to avoid the running at a later time. I keep a small bottle of both on hand. It's the bomb! Good luck on you little one, it is a cute cute cute thing!

Marcie I did that same thing - but I sat a clay pot on my treadle sewing machine! Good grief. Now I have to leave it closed all the time because it rotted the wood on that fold out part. Dye catcher sheets are lifesavers. Maybe it will help. blessings, marlene

Have you tried grandma secret spot remover? I use it when something like this happens. The best thing is to let it soak in. Mom had pants that were on a rusty old hanger and the rust went through them. One bottle and the rust was gone!
