Friendship Sampler

I got a big surprise the other day when the mailman delivered this darling quilt to me from Mary Flynn at Quilt Hollow! For some reason Blogger decided that it should be shown vertically rather than horizontal.

 

 Luckily, it doesn't matter! Mary said she was following a pattern from Pam Buda, and she even used Pam's wonderful fabric line, Heart of the Prairie, from Marcus Fabrics. Would you believe this is my first sampler quilt? I have always meant to make one, and the blocks in this one are so adorable! Also you can see Mary's wonderful feathers quilted on this little quilt. Mary does wonderful work. She has quilted a few of my larger quilts and I know I can always count on her! Thanks Mary for this darling gift! You are the best! 

On other current events in our family, guess whose little grandson turned three years old! Yup, mine! This is our darling Isaac with the Curious George cake that his mom made for him. She is so clever!

Springville Quilt Show

OK, I finally added the Followers gadget to my blog. I resisted doing it for a long time, but so many of you were kind enough to sign up anyway (how'd you do that?) that I put it on. I guess with Bloglines closing down we will be needing additional resources to find our favorite blogs. I have really enjoyed Bloglines over the years and am sorry to see them go. Boo hoo, seriously!

While in Utah there was a quilt show taking place  at the Springville Museum. My son and daughter-in-law took me and my daughter Jennie to check it out. There were some lovely quilts, and I have a few to share.

 We fell in love with two family reunion quilts. Both were designed by design Lori Holt. Check out her blog--what darling things she makes! I hope you can get close-ups of these quilts because they have adorable details!

Here is another quilt that I was attracted to. Don't know for sure, but it looks like Blackbird Designs perhaps? I know someone will correct me if I am wrong. 

 Finally, here is my little buddy again, Isaac! He finally received the quilt that I made him! Isn't he adorable!  More to come!  (Did she mean quilts or babies???)

UPDATE: The flag quilt has been identified! It is from a book by Blackbird Designs called Women of Grace and Charm. An old book of theirs. They have so many great books and great designs!

Family and Fabric

Here I sit at the home of my daughter in Missoula, Montana. The kids are watching kid's TV, which is so loud and obnoxious, it makes one wonder what it is doing to the impressionable young minds that will become the leaders of the future. In fact, it makes me wonder if the writers and producers of these programs have some sort of subversive master plan to destroy America through TV. All I can say is, "Stupid, stupid, stupid".

I have been gone from home for a week now and have covered a lot of ground. I flew to Salt Lake City and spent a few days with my son and wife and darling baby, Isaac. This little guy is a joy! I hated leaving him!

We had our family reunion last Saturday and I had a wonderful time seeing relatives that I have not seen for years, as well as cousins from the Salt Lake area that I always enjoy being around. My Ancestor Quilt was auctioned off for $650! I was thrilled! My cousins were bidding against each other, and sometimes against themselves. Connie and David Slaughter had the high bid. I guess I didn't need to worry that it might not be appreciated. Thanks family! 


Stopped at a few quilt shops, sold a few patterns, bought a little fabric. Now I am in Missoula, MT cutting scraps at my daughter's house for a new quilt project. Polly, my daughter, is downsizing and doesn't have room for her/my scraps any more. I forgot some of the cool stuff in her stash! So I am stocking up on HSTs while I am here. Fabric and family--my kinda fun!

STARS IN MY EYES TOO!

First there was an idea, then a design was developed with the help of EQ6, then came blocks of 9-patches and stars, and finally a quilt! This was supposed to be a quilt for my newest grandchild born last December. I was way ahead of schedule and finished it last summer. So instead of waiting for the baby, I sent the photo to McCall's magazine. They liked it! This is their photo below.

Today I was informed that it will actually be published in the June-July issue of McCall's Quick Quilts! Check out the link to McCall's to get a preview of my quilt, American Dreamer, and all the other quilts that will be appearing in this up coming issue. There is even a link to directions for a queen size version! My quilt is 49" x 49" --a large sized baby quilt, which is a good thing because baby won't be getting it for a while!

This issue will be out April 13 through May 4, 2010. Now I will be circling the mailbox in anticipation!

A WEEK IN PROVO

Yes, a week in Provo, not Provence, but we loved it!  We got home from Utah late last night and we are still recovering. After sleeping most of the day, I just showered and am now pouring myself a Diet Coke. Ahhh.

We spent a delightful week with my son Renn, wife Keira, and baby Isaac Michael! Isaac is three weeks old and we loved every minute of time we had with him. He coos and gurgles and squeaks and even smiles sweet little baby smiles as tho he is having the best dreams. Sometimes when his daddy starts laughing at something he appears to laugh as well. A good omen, as we laugh a lot in our family. This was their first Christmas together as a family and it was wonderful to be able to share it with them.

I will try not to overwhelm you readers who are looking for quilt-action here, but having just returned from what is facetiously called Happy Valley you must forgive my exuberance in baby sharing!

It was snowing in Utah yesterday and we were afraid our flight would be cancelled. Son Renn drove us to the airport, and it got icier as we progressed. We got there by 10:15am and found our flight had been changed to leave at 1:00, an hour later. We watched out those big airport windows and saw the snow stop and the ground visibility clear. What a relief! We caught our connection in Dallas with no problem and got home late, but happy to be home again. Sigh. Yes, Dorothy is right, there is no place like home!

And I really should add Happy New Year to all!

A NEW LITTLE PATCH

I want to thank all of you who left comments on my last post. Wow, there are some really funny stories of food flubs out there! If you haven't had a chance to read some of these stories you should go back and see the comments on my previous post. I feel so much better about myself now!

There is a new star shining in our family! 

Yes, for unto us a new grandchild has been born!

My son and his wife have a new baby boy! Born December 2, 2009 at 8 pounds 2 ounces and named Isaac Michael Patch! We are so delighted! All is well with both Mother and Baby, and Daddy is thru the moon! We will be spending Christmas with them, so we have to wait a couple weeks before we get to see him. 

Big yawn for the little guy! Let's hope he is a good sleeper. His father was a good sleeper---during the day!

Ahh, to coin a phrase, Life Is Good!
