<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I never dreamed this pattern would still be popular 12 years after I designed it!

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Please note the original 24" size quilt pattern is in the previous post. Just scroll down.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Little Trees Pattern 12" Version

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Make four trees using the Tri-Recs tool, or make a template using a three inch square.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Be sure to add a 1/4" seam allowance to your template.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Make the trunk with a 1-1/2" strip of brown.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Measure and add side pieces and trim all to fit 3-1/2" wide, centering the trunk.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Make 20 HSTs that finish at 1 inch.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Cut 4 sashing strips 1-1/2" by 3-1/2"

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Sew a HST to the end of each sashing strip as shown.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Sew the sashing strip to the right side of each tree to form a square block.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Sew the trees together so the pinwheel comes together in the center.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Make 4 more pinwheels for the corners.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Cut border strips 1-1/2" x 8-1/2". Sew 2 colored strips together for each side.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Attach borders with pinwheel corners.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This is a rough pattern and hopefully you can figure it out with the help of the photo.

Well I am still puttering along with my stitching. I am working on this quilt, Prairie Burgoyne, that was a Block of the Month (BOM) from Temecula Quilt Company in 2015. I love the block, Burgoyne Surrounded, and this is the third quilt I have made with this pattern. You can see the many versions of this quilt on my Pinterest page. I think it will be really pretty. The beautiful fabric is a line from Pam Buda at Heartspun Quilts. Pam is amazing! You will love her website!
Someone will ask what size the blocks are, so let me tell you that the 4-Patches are made with 1-1/2" squares, then combined with 2-1/2" plain squares to make the double 4-Patch. For the triangle corners cut two squares at 3-3/4" then cut in half diagonally. You may get by with 3-1/2" squares, I really can't remember, but try one if you like and see what works for you. You will then have to trim the block, leaving your 1/4" seams on each side. My whole block finished at about 5-1/2". Hope you like it!
My reply was, "Only in my head"! I haven't designed anything for publication in a couple of years. I have had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I have really slowed down. I haven't been able to admit, even to myself, that I was done with my quilt pattern business. I just don't want to work that hard anymore!

I am happily involved in my life, still making quilts, but just for myself and family. I have also been devoting a lot of time to Family History, as you can see from my previous post.

As a result of all this, I will be taking down my website patchalotpatterns.com

I want to urge any of you who may be interested in buying any of my patterns to do so before the site is gone. Also, if you are interested in any of the free patterns on my site, get them soon! Once the site is down they will be gone.

I have moved some of my patterns to Etsy, but don't see this working very well so don't know if I will continue. Let's face it, there is always something new attracting our attention! The world keeps spinning! I enjoy all the new stuff too!

Just for fun I have pictured three baby quilts I made recently. Our family is growing! The blue and white one you will notice, has a twisted block in it. This gives credence to the fact that my eyesight is going, among other things!

Something happened the other day that I really need to record and share. First let me say that I am posting this bit of family history for myself and for anyone searching for Winspear family history. The internet has made searching so much easier, but someone needs to make sure the information gets out there so Google can find it for us. I love doing family history research, genealogy. I have had so many emotional experiences when I have found members of my family who I knew nothing about. I have interviewed relatives both close and distant. Everyone is always happy to share and glad to know someone is interested. This is particularly true of the older generation (of which I have become a part).
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So on Friday I spent the entire day searching through family files, scanning and uploading old photos. My mother, Louise Winspear, had been very organized and had file folders where she saved old photos, funeral programs, notes, news clippings, etc. As the "family historian" I was left with much of this information. I have been trying to go through it and make it available to the rest of the family through online sharing.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I came across an old newspaper clipping that told of the sale of a house, built in 1810, at <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">5976 Genesee St.<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> Lancaster, New York. My Winspear family settled in this area after coming to America from Yorkshire, England. This article mentioned that during the Civil War John and Catherine (Wheelock) Winspear lived there, and that they built a tunnel between the house and the 40 x 60 foot basement of the barn where it was used as a hiding place for runaway slaves. Let me tell you, this sent chills thru me! I know well who this family is as I have recorded their names and the names of their many children. John is the brother of my G-G-G-Grandfather William Winspear, who lived nearby. To think that members of my family were involved in the Underground Railroad made me so proud. This area of Western New York is so close to Canada and my guess is that the runaway slaves here headed there.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Even though I feel acquainted with this family through my research, it brought to mind how much I don't know, and how much I would like to know. For example, I didn't know this family was involved in hiding slaves. I don't know what part, if any, that his brother William played. I do know that William's son, my G-G Grandfather James Pennock, joined the Union Army when he was 16, as did his cousin, George Franklin Winspear, John and Catherine's son.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Now, in the year 2016, I was able to go to the computer and Google the address of the house and find it on Google Maps. I found out that the house is currently an historical landmark called the Hull House, after the original owner, and they do tours and have lunches there, etc. It's amazing what we can find online now. I do a lot of research on ancestry.com, so if you are Winspear searching for information, be sure and check out my Winspear/mwp Family Tree, or contact me--definitely contact me!
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">All the best till next time!
Yes, I mean truly without a stitch. "How is this possible," You may ask? Well for one thing, we were lucky enough to have company visiting on a few occasions. I guess it is considered kind of rude to lock yourself in the sewing room when you have guests to visit with.

In October my daughter Polly and granddaughter Katie came to visit. Katie is home-schooled so they manage to get their schooling in wherever they are. Plus, they are able to visit interesting and even historical places off-season.

Jamestown Settlement is a great place to visit!
The museum there is fabulous! (No photos allowed)
They also have guides in clothes typical of the era who explain how the people lived in that very primitive time. There are replicas of the huts that the Indians lived in, including animal skins and utensils on the walls and cots. The above shows Katie standing next to a skunk skin!

This ship is a replica of the Susan Constant, one of the three ships that sailed into the Chesapeake Bay and up the Jamestown River to settle. The ships actually landed about a mile from where we live in Virginia Beach, VA.
You would not believe how small these ships actually are! I can't even imagine crossing the ocean in this! A two month journey! I love all this historical stuff and love reading about how they lived, etc. And I am very thankful for my soft life in current times!
The Virginia Beach Aquarium is always on the list of things to do here. Katie really loved the turtles and felt that one was especially fond of her as well.

My husband was afraid it was a flesh eating disease. Thankfully he was wrong too! It seems that I just tangled with plain old poison ivy or oak. It happened a week ago and I am still quite miserable. We have never had it in our yard before that I know of, so it blindsided me. I just reached for it and pulled as I was pulling up other little trees that regularly sprout in our yard. This one, however, fought back! When it began to spread it took a violent turn. Both arms are covered, some on both legs and on my waist. I went to the doctor on Monday and she gave me some prednisone, which may be helping. I bought something called Ivarest, which has been helpful in controlling the itch somewhat, and it's helping the welts dry out. The skin that is healing looks burned and dried.
Now for the happy stuff! I began making the Cheri Payne Everyday Patchwork blocks and finished them all before I came back to Virginia. I love them! The directions are still on her blog. Scroll back to May 2015. She also has a darling little patriotic quilt on her blog now with the directions.
My life is now very much in the slow lane. I would like to be doing more, but just don't have it in me anymore. My husband retired and I guess I did too. But no worries because now I am still doing what I love to do, just not under pressure. To coin a phrase: Life is good!<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
My son, Renn is a woodworker and has become fascinated in wood turning on a lathe. He is making all kinds of delicate little items. We were in Utah at his house over Easter and he gave me this wonderful little bowl that he made, and the darling spoon which is about 5 inches in length. They are beautiful!<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">
I figured that since he was spinning away maybe he would like to try making me wooden spools, so he did! The first one turned out beautiful! The second one was looking great when all of a sudden the top blew off. Whoops! Of course I wanted it anyway. I can stick a little flag in the hole, right? He has made lots of other things as well, but currently it is wood turning that is holding his interest.

My interest still revolves around stitching in any form. I have been playing with Buttermilk Basin's free BOM. They are so cute!

I also have several of the other Buttermilk Basin designs by Stacy West. They are fun and easy!

Along with that I got caught up in the four-patch frenzy that is going on and have a really pretty double four-patch quilt in the works. Who knows, maybe I will blog again and share it with you!

Meanwhile Hubby and I were doing a little furniture shopping this weekend and look at the darling pillows I spotted at Crate and Barrel! They are pretty pricey, $60 to $80. But good inspiration!

I am happy to say that one of my little quilts was chosen to be in this cheerful magazine! It is called Spring Morning! I made this as a baby quilt for my son's third baby, Olivia Patch. McCall's graciously published the quilts I made for his first two children as well, so I was pleased that they accepted this one also. How can a grandmother explain to a grandchild that their quilt didn't make the cut? Haha! My friend and quilter, Marae Harris quilted this for me. I have always loved the pink and yellow combination and I was looking for something sweet and girlie. And this is why-

And on a similar note, this quilt design is almost the same. Can you spot the differences? Well, obviously the colors make a huge difference! The blocks are the same size, I just changed out the four-patch in the block for whatever that little triangle block is called. You can see in both quilts that the Monkey Wrench block was altered so the seams lined up with the corner squares of the other block. See what options you have when you design quilts? You are in charge of the decision making! I am particularly proud of the border in this one. It is the first time I ever made a zig-zag border and I love it! The lovely blue-grey fabric in this quilt is by Olde Green Cupboard, for Marcus Fabrics. It's called Londonderry. You might still find it on whittlesfabrics.com. It is an old release at this point. Most everything is by the time a quilt gets published.

We have left 2014 behind and are into another new year! January brings optimism and a fresh start. To many of us that means 'what can I start off the year making?' To others it means 'what quilt can I get back to and finish!' Either way it is exciting to think of the projects we love to work on, and the opportunity of progress in 2015. If 2015 means digging into your scraps be sure to take a look at my website for scrappy patterns. You know I LOVE scrap quilts!

My birthday also falls in the first week of January and so to celebrate both my birthday and the New Year, I am offering a SPECIAL DEAL on my patterns. I am including a free pattern with your purchase. Just place an order on my website and I will send you a pattern of your choice for free. Email me to say which free pattern to include. If I don't hear from you I will just pick one for you myself. (Please note that the Cotillion pattern is no longer available, sorry)

I'm giving you a heads up so you can keep an eye out for it. Here is the cover:

Look for this magazine where you normally pick up your magazines, or you can follow this LINK if you want to order online. This is a news stand issue, so it won't come with your subscription.

This is a quilt I kept coming back to because as it grew I loved it more and more and every time I worked on it I wanted it to be bigger. Finally McCall's asked if I would please finish it so they could publish it, so it got finished at 76.5" x 84.5". With a design like this you can make it as big or as little as you choose. If you are a scrapper like I am, you love working with as many fabrics as you can. There is just something about all your fabrics playing together that gives such a great look. To further enhance the beauty of the scraps I used one tan fabric with scrappy corners for the square in a square block that is consistent throughout the quilt. I also used the same light fabric for the corners of the colored square in a square block. For me, this brings a calming influence.

These are the little wool ornaments that I made for my grandchildren this year. Little penguins. If you read my post from a few weeks ago you will notice that they go with the penguin gift theme. I am pleased to say that my grandkids look forward to their ornaments each year and love looking back through their collections from over the years. That is what makes it worth it to me!

And the tree! We all love our own tree, filled with love and memories from years gone by and usually something new as well. My Williamsburg Medallion Quilt is the backdrop.
I found the perfect spot for my little red hexagon table topper. My little rocking horses and reindeer are playing merry-go-round on the pedestal plate. If you have been reading my blog for a long while you may remember this little cute tree quilt. I designed the pattern and have the instructions for FREE on my website. This version is smaller than the directions specify. I made so many of these for gifts! And so did many of you! If this design is new to you be sure and see the gallery.
Lastly, I want to share my Tone it Down quilt from last winter's American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. If you are on Instagram, go to #apqquiltalong and you can see lots of variations, including the original by Lissa Alexander, commonly know as the very talented ModaLissa. Right-she designs for Moda Fabrics! Anyway, I love mine! The pattern is actually called Burgoyne Surrounded, a very old pattern after a Revolutionary War general. Lissa updated the pattern in a beautiful way! (I know--if you follow all these links you will be here all night!)

Yay!Hi everyone! I wonder how many of you have seen my quilt published in American Patchwork and Quilting Super Star Quilts magazine? I picked the magazine up in the grocery store the other day and saw that they republished my quilt Pick from the Past! I am delighted! I never tire of this! Ha ha! The magazine contains beautiful star quilts of all types and sizes. Thanks AP&Q!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I added another round of hexagons to mine and made a table topper. I think it will look darling with some greenery on my round kitchen table. The hexies are 5/8 inch. I learned that you measure hexagons by the length of the side. I was able to purchase a couple packs of them at a quilt shop over the summer. It is enjoyable stitching in the evening while watching TV. But let me tell you, these babies take forever! This project has been every evening for a month! In this case speed is not involved. Just consistent stitching!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Somewhere on line I saw where someone finished the edge of their project by adding hexagons all around the underside of the quilt. Again, tedious, but what a nice edge you get. I should have stopped there because I am not at all happy with my hand quilting on this project. Maybe it doesn't need to be quilted. Can I get a hands up for that?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> I happened upon this project in the December 2012 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine while sorting through my magazines. The design came from a vintage project that Ann Hermes adapted. This is one I wanted to make when I first saw it. I always have scraps, and they prompted me to get to work. I enjoyed this scrappy, wonky project so much that I just kept making blocks, and now I have a much larger quilt like this that I adore! Plus it feels so good to find yourself at the bottom of the scrap box!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On another note, I have been having a terrible time posting to my Facebook for Patchalot Patterns. Things just don't seem to show up. It is very frustrating. And you know I don't post to my blog like I used to. But I am on Instagram and also on Pinterest. In fact I just noticed that I have 91 boards on Pinterest. Someone please save me from myself! I do think it is a great way to catalog photos of quilts and things that you like. I would prefer to fine tune it a bit, but so far making more boards is my only option. I have so many boards now that sometimes I am not sure where to pin an item. So I make another board.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In reference to my last post, I am now into season 12 of Midsomer Murders and they have become a little spicier and perhaps a bit more graphic. I hope I didn't recommend something that you find offensive down the road. Oddly, it didn't seem as provocative to me as American TV. Then again, my head is down stitching for a good part of the program!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Somewhere in the past few years I have really become hooked on British TV. I love most of the programs on Masterpiece, especially Sherlock, and of course Downton Abby. I watch these and many others, but my primary watching is focused on Midsomer Murders. It has become my "go to" TV show. One reason is that I can never run out of episodes! If I can find nothing else of interest to watch I can always go to Netflix and settle in for a nice Midsomer Murder. Maybe it's my age, but I am really sick of the pulse racing shows and the vulgarity. The networks have allowed too much vulgarity into their programs. I think that when people, especially children, see it on TV they think it is acceptable. Yup, I've become a prude and proud of it! Where I come from they call it standards of morality. It's not that I never watch programs containing some of that stuff, but why immerse myself in something that I find distasteful. Consequently I find myself tagging along with DCI Tom Barnaby investigating the latest murders in the fictitious county of Midsomer in England.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I heard that Netflix has <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">recently added seasons 15 and 16 to this ever popular program. I am only in season 5! This program is also available on Amazon Prime. The program began showing in Great Britain in 1997. And the series is apparently still filming! It is amazing that they can create so many diverse murders in this beautiful rural county.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I think part of what I enjoy in the program is the beautiful small villages and the lovely old homes and the ever blooming gardens. Come to think of it I have never seen an episode filmed in winter! Or in the rain! It's like Camelot!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The main characters are, I guess you could say rather vanilla. Not in a bad way, just nice, normal folk who have a job to do and do it in a nice way. The stories are very creative. Last night I watched an episode about orchid fanatics and three deaths that occurred over a rare orchid worth one hundred-fifty thousand pounds (being American I have no idea how the Brits write that). I also learned that the word orchid actually means testicles because of the way the bulbs hang when removed from the soil. Hmmm.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Another episode I remember an older couple raised marijuana in their greenhouse and made brownies, which they shared with DCI Barnaby, whose disposition improved considerably for the rest of the day!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Yes, it must be my age, at least in part. I can sit and stitch while I enjoy this program as I relax at the end of the day. Once upon a time I was young and danced wildly in the rain for as long as the music played. Now I watch with pleasure as my grandchildren enjoy that stage of their life. Meanwhile, I am quite content to be a rather vanilla grandmother doing what I enjoy now. Just give me a Diet Coke and, um, pass me one of those brownies with the little green flecks will you? (Ha ha. yes, just kidding!)
I flew from Arizona to Virginia the end of June with a layover in Minneapolis. I was home for a week and my husband and I packed up and drove to Minneapolis! Well, I didn't want him to drive alone. And... we drove through Wisconsin and stopped in Menasha to visit Primitive Gatherings! I was delighted to get to see Lisa Bongeon's shop, tho Lisa was not there. She was off teaching somewhere, of course. Sorry to have missed her, but I did get a couple photos. And you can visit her at her blog by clicking her name. We left Menasha and drove a short distance to Appleton, Wisconsin. I went to high school there and haven't been back since.
These kids are so funny! Well, to me at least. They are my blood, make no mistake! Some people develop humor as they grow, and some are just naturals! These kids are just goofy!

Saturday I visited Olde World Quilt Shoppe. It is located in Cave Creek, AZ. I first visited the shop in February when Lisa Bonjean was there teaching. This is a wonderful shop! Perhaps one of the loveliest I have been in, and that is saying something! A bed laden with beautiful quilts is in one corner and in another is a big comfy couch, with old looking chandeliers adding a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owner, Dee Grantham, above, is responsible for the beauty and style of this shop. I am very impressed with Dee. Not only is she talented, she is really a sweetheart!

Now my friends, do you see anything familiar in the photo? Yes! my Button Bandits quilt with the crows is hanging in the back. The shop has been making kits for this and also Medallion Doll Quilt, on left, and they must keep selling out because they keep ordering patterns! If you want a kit for either of these call the shop (480-473-2171), I bet they will ship!

As you can see I am still in Arizona, where the temp is around 108 degrees and the grass is crunchy; the A/C struggles to keep the house cool and I struggle to not adjust the thermostat lower. Things change. Kids change, temperatures change and we try and keep up!

I have actually been sewing! I am back in the swing of it now and feeling really good about it. I have done a few wool projects.

This is Warm Winter Blessings, from Primitive Gatherings. I chose to make the mini version. Those blocks are 4 x 5.5". The 9-patches are 1-1/2 inches. I altered the borders to make mine smaller than the pattern shows. That's what we do right? Adjust according to our own needs.

The above is a free pattern that I have wanted to make for several years. Again I adapted mine for my own use. I used wool for the appliqué and made mine scrappy. I love it! Thanks to Joanne the Threadhead blogger.

This one I am working on right now. It is a Cheri Payne design. I just love Cheri's primitive style. Especially the wool appliqué, which is so forgiving for someone like me who doesn't really do hand appliqué. Cheri calls her patterns Wednesday's Best Quilt Patterns. The link will take you to her site and you can browse around to your hearts content!

While I am at it I need to post a photo from my trip to San Diego and my visit to Temecula Quilt Company. A very tiny quilt shop with a very big presence! The owner, Sheryl Johnson, is full of clever ideas and projects. Look at that cute display of Valdani thread in canning jars!

This is Lissa Alexander's quilt, Tone It Down, as shown in the magazine. It is beautiful! For a real treat go to Lissa's blog for a display of several of these quilts completed by various designers. They are unique and awesome! You may recognize the design as a pattern called Burgoyne Surrounded after a general in the Revolutionary War. Historically it has been a two color quilt, like red and white or blue and white. This scrappy version really appeals to me!
I know some of you are waiting to see my photos from Libby's house. As afore mentioned, I got to spend some time with

The first thing you see when you arrive at Libby's house is the quilt hanging on the gate next to the house. Yes, it is outside! The Month of April has been full of fun activities! Our granddaughter Mary's wedding was the big event that we planned everything around. Mary and her husband Mike were married in the LDS Oakland Temple on April 4th. We were so delighted to be able to be there with them! My husband Mike is on the left, and I hope Mary and her Mike are blessed with many years of happiness as my husband and I have enjoyed. The newly weds are now on their honeymoon in Hawaii!

Here is a little selfie of me and the bride's younger sister. Some of you may remember Kathryn when she was a baby eight years ago. I called her Plumpkin back then. She is not that anymore! I think she has my teeth, what do you think? Seriously, where did I put them? (No, not seriously, I still have my own teeth, thank heavens.)

I think my husband figured we drove about 2200 miles on our trip this month. Before the wedding we drove from Mesa, AZ to San Diego. We stayed with one of my oldest and bestest friends. We had so much fun, mostly just talking! I should have taken more photos of her house because it is charming and happy and colorful. She collects all kinds of fun things, including old quilts. She gave me a darling little ladder that I will show at a later date when I find the perfect little quilts to display on it.

I was delighted to visit two quilts shops in San Diego. I know there are lots of them, but time and money limited my visits. The first one I went to was the Fat Quarters Quilt Shop in Vista, CA. This shop has long been a favorite and the owner, Michelle Joyner, buys my patterns! On top of that, Michelle is the most friendly and the sweetest person ever. Her energy keeps that shop running at top speed and it is full of wonderful things. While I was there Barbara Brackman, Ladie's Album line was delivered and as Michelle was unpacking, I was buying! It is beautiful! Also, pictured below you will see our wonderful blogging friend LIBBY! From Plain and Simple blog. We met up at the shop and after that we went to a cute Mexican place for lunch and then to Libby's house. That will be the subject for another post--with photos! It was a delight, and so is Libby! what fun!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> I got a sweet little card in the mail today from Grey and Micah. Plus a Valentine photo. Don't they have a clever mother? My granddaughter, Becky, is always creating darling little things to make life memorable! My mother, the artist, would be so delighted to see all the cute things Becky does!

i

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Some of you have been getting glimpses of these twins as they have been growing up. They are almost three years old, can you believe it? On Becky's blog she often shares conversations with the boys. For example:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Micah: I want a cookie!
Travis: You can have a cookie after you eat your dinner.
Micah: Hmm. I think you're tricking me.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Naturally, I laugh at everything they say and do.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">More later, my computer is so slow today that I am done waiting!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For all of you out there in the frozen snow and ice, my sympathies. I put in so many years of that and I know what you are going through. Thankfully I am in Arizona now and basking in a surge of winter warmth -- 85 degrees today!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">PS: Happy Birthday President Lincoln! We still love you!

Let me begin by thanking you, my dear blogging friends, for your warm and touching comments on my last post regarding my Dad. I know we all suffer these losses in our lives, and having friends offer kind words of sympathy and encouragement means so much.

Today I had the pleasure of attending a class taught by Lisa Bongean from Primitive Gatherings. I was at her website a month ago and noticed that she would be in the Phoenix area this month, so I quick called the shop where she was teaching and got the last spot! I didn't even care what project she was teaching, I just wanted to be in her class. This sweet little table mat is called Needful Things. Lisa gave us all kinds of tips and techniques for wool stitchery. Including "keep the steam iron moving" when you are fusing the wool in place. This was one I needed to keep in mind as I have a tendency to press down and scorch the wool. Ouch. Not a good look. So my project is all pressed in place and I will have hours of enjoyment as I perfect my embroidery stitches. Lisa is a great teacher. I am so glad I was able to take this class from her. Sadly, I was so busy stitching away that I forgot to take any photos!

Now a word about the shop I was at. It is called Olde World Quilt Shoppe and is about a 50 minute drive from my house. I had not been out to the shop before, but will definitely be going back again. The shops close to where I live focus on bright and modern prints. While I appreciate that look, it is not me. (My granddaughters? Yes!) Olde World Quilt Shoppe is filled with awesome plaids and beautiful flannels and wools, along with wonderful Civil War repros. Lots of kits and beautiful quilts on display. Plus the staff was so friendly! I immediately relaxed into a state of total bliss. They were named a Top Shop in 2009 (AP&Q Quilt Shop Sampler magazine). Great shop!

So that was my fun day. I came home to find that my granddaughter Mary had made dinner and Super Bowl treats. A good day made even better--I didn't have to cook!

Needful Things: Good friends, a little sewing, and someone else cooking!

I hope your needs are being met as well as my own were today!
