What's Cooking?

Heat wave sweeps the United States and everywhere I turn people are feeling the heat. It has hovered close to 100 degrees here in Virginia Beach, and we are getting lots of rain too. And that begs the question, what's for dinner? If you have any cool suggestions please leave a comment.

Meanwhile I have been sitting under the a/c vent in my sewing room stitching away on a nice bright quilt. You saw the geese I was making a couple posts ago, well they have been stitched into fine little blocks. Well actually, 12 inch blocks, not so little. But very pretty I think!

These hot colors just seem to feel like I do lately. Hot but happy! One problem, after I got the sashing all in place I decided that cheddar squares would look better than the pink since there is pink in the border as well. So I have been picking out pink and restitching cheddar. A little tedious, but not bad. Plus it makes me happier with the end result. And this is why it takes me so long to make a quilt. It is always a work that changes as I go. I have never been known for my decisiveness. Maybe this should be written on my quilt labels!

Very pretty new quilt. Love the scrappy fabrics.

What's for dinner? Hmm, my first choice, take-out. Let someone else cook.

Second choice, rotisserie chicken. Put the rotisserie on the porch and let it turn for 90 minutes. Use Toni's seasoning (green container) all over before placing chicken in to cook. Some salad and you have a yummy meal.

omg you could definitely market those labels. I need to put them on my quilts, that's for sure. Your new quilt is so pretty.

We eat a lot of turkey sandwiches (really good Deli turkey, like Boar's Head) and green salads, during the summer. We like things simple, though.
Love your "faux" label, and the quilt!

I LOVE these blocks!! I really like the pink centers - grabbed me right away. I really like cheddar too so I look forward to seeing what that looks like as well. Those labels would work for everything I make too :0)

Great quilt...I love it! Sorry to hear about the heatwave...we are used to hot Summers here...but it has been pretty mild...I think it doesn't bother us so much when its 100 becauseas they say...Its a dry heat... I say...like an oven...but I hope you get relief soon...salad is always my choice when its hot...or ice cream!! Stay cool!!

Your geese are much more colorful than mine! They look great. We are having taco salads for supper. I do have a really good chicken salad recipe that is good for summer. Hmmmm...might have to do that tomorrow - with the bazillion green beans I picked this morning!

Very pretty....would you send some of that heat this way please.....we here in the PNW have had an unusually cold and yes, wet June. I'm guessing you don't want to hear that I'm bundled up in sweats, heavy socks and a couple layers.......

Love, love, LOVE the labels! I think that unless you piece or sew yourself that you can't truly appreciate the time element. I'm working on something soon for my granddaughters for Christmas that is going to take soooooooooooo long but they'll love it. I'll share more as I get moving along. Right now I'm painting my daughter's old room which will be my new sewing room! Talk about sweating buckets and being hot!

Once upon a time, I made a baby quilt for a 'friend' When I delivered it she was delighted. Then she added, "Wow! You should think about making these to sell. I bet you could sell this for $40.00."

Maybe you add that to your label -

This took a long time and it wasn't cheap either.

Wonderful! I think fixing that to cheddar is a great change, even if it is tedious :)

Is there a Trader Joe's nearby? I adore their Wine Country chicken salad, spooned into halved pita bread. No cooking, no cleanup!!!!
