SCRAPS OF MY TIME

While in Atlanta my daughter and I visited this quilt shop called Red Hen. I loved the red barn look of the outside, plus this great quilt was cut and glued on a board and sealed so that the weather wouldn't damage it. Great idea! It created a very exciting visual entry into the shop!
This is my darling daughter Jennie that I went to visit in Atlanta. She loves the brights, and when I come to visit she suddenly gets inspired to make a quilt! So we worked on this design a bit before I came home.

Jennie also possesses my first Bernina! Isn't this the sweetest machine? I bought it in 1970 for $300, and believe me, it broke the bank. I was so thrilled to own a Bernina, and used that faithful machine for twenty-five years before I got a new one! I now have a Bernina 440, which is a dream! But my first little workhorse will always be my sentimental favorite.
Can you tell how tiny these scraps are? Jennie knows I love scraps so she pulled these out in case they could be of use. I should have placed a ruler in the picture, but maybe you can tell the size from the lettering on the selvedge. When I laughed she indignantly replied that I was the one who taught her to save scraps. OK, guilty, but I feel it is important to have a little room for the seam allowances. :) So there you have it, a little more about my Atlanta trip.

Summer is flying, and so am I. Next weekend I am off to Arizona, you think to have my head examined, going to the desert this time of year. But no, my son's family is moving into a new house and they think I can be of help. If sitting under a fan giving directions will help, then count me in!

Love your daughter's quilt block. Hey, I know plenty of people who save scraps too small to use!

Have fun in Arizona. I did hear something about it being cooler than normal this year....just think no humidity! A dry heat is much more tolerable I think. Tomorrow I head to KY for a few days...unbearable humidity! EEK

What a clever entry into the shop. Neat quilt, too. We love great ideas, don't we Marcie? :>

Your daughter Jennie is so adoraboe and I love that block she's got there. Great fabric. I know I love it for sure. Looks like she's got some Mary Englebreit in there. I love that particular fabric line of hers.

I love your old treasure and how you passed it down to Jennie, too. That's very special.

Scrappy Love, *karendianne. who is really enjoying all these Patachlot posts.

My MIL had that same machine. Unfortunately, when their house was cleared out, my SIL who doesn't sew got the machine (thinking her daughters might like to learn) and last I heard they said it doesn't work. I hope they haven't thrown it out because I'm sure there's not much wrong with it. I should try to get my hands on it. But do I need another sewing machine??

What a nice post. What model is your first machine? Jennie's quilt is looking great so far. It's too hot in AZ, Marcie, don't gooooooooo!

My Mom had that machine, and I learned to sew on it. My folks got me my own machine is high school (alas, not a Bernina), and Mom eventually got a different machine (also not a Bernina). After Mom passed away, Dad gave the old Bernie to my cousin who has made many quilts with it. Dad didn't give her the free-arm, which we passed along after he died. I don't how she managed to make all those quilts. Now, I too, have a 440 and just love it. Thanks for the memories.

Very pretty, pretty quilt! The block with your daughter is so pretty too. I know lots of people who just love that machine...someday, I will have a bernie! Enjoy your trip!

Great pictures!! I LOVE the quilt in that first pic, it is just gorgeous!
Jennie's quilt is going to be so cute! It's nice that she has your old machine.

Bernina makes a great machine. I gave my first one to a lady who sews a lot but had an inexpensive machine and could not afford better at the time. My daughter does not have the slightest inclination to sew. I am glad that yours does.

Oh what a fun time you must have had. I've been at mom's house too and am on my way home today. Its been so nice not working and visiting. And of course I brought my featherweight and did a lot of sewing!

I have a Bernina Minimatic as my second machine. Great machine and sews through anything!
