MY MEDALLION QUILTS

I have been playing with scraps again this week. I decided that I wanted to see what Williamsburg Medallion, the quilt I showed a few posts ago, would look like in scraps. I replaced the toile center with a star that I felt complimented the design, and dragged out the fabrics for auditioning. You know what that does to a sewing space! I actually had just sorted through little mounds of fabric and put each in its own container according to color. I really whipped through it, so it wasn't exactly pristine, but that's why I have cabinets with doors on them! Anyway, suffice it to say that my room is back to "normal". This was lots of fun to make, by the way! I would love to see what Libby would do with this! She has such a flair for the primitive look!
Now I have a question for you. Do you think all medallion quilts look the same? I have had two people look at Williamsburg Medallion (#1) and comment that it looked like another quilt I made. One said it looks like Homeport (#2), and another said it looks like Chesapeake Star (#3). I do like medallion quilts, it's true! Am I just making the same quilt over and over again? I thought I was making different quilts with interesting borders that I can change each time around. I am finding that I really have to defend myself lately!

No need to defend yourself. I enjoy seeing your quilts not matter what your taste. That is what makes each of us special, our unique tastes. Enjoy the quilting.

well, I think medallion quilts in general have a certain "format" and thus your quilts have a certain stylistic similarity -- but I wouldn't say they all look the same, and you shouldn't feel defensive! After all, many artists work in series, exploring the various possibilities of a particular format or theme...

I think they are all very different, but then we are quilters (artists). I love the scrappy one, it sings.

For me the all look different. No need to defend yourself. They are just all medaillon quilts and that is the only thing they have the same. Love them all.

Like the scrappy one! And: no! they do NOT look all the same, even the scrappy one looks totally different from the "original". Checked your pattern pages and you come up with lovely designs. Keep on doing it!

Love the new look with the star in the middle! Really. I'm tempted to try one even. You're patterns are each unique and wonderful, just like you. Thanks for being so creative and sharing your endeavors.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the rest. YOU are the designer and you make the quilts. If they want something else then let them design their own.
I love the scrappy one also. It looks very different than the Williamsburg. See each person can put their own twist to YOUR pattern. Keep it up.

I think you quilts are just stunning, you should be most proud, they may be medalion quilts but they are all different to me...even if they are exactly the same pattern and different fabrics, it is amazing how different they still look...

They all look different to me! A medallion is what it is, no need to defend yourself. I just love this Williamsburg variation w/scraps!

Hey, you absolutely don't have to defend yourself. Your patterns are so great and I'm not even a very "scrappy" type quilter, although I have done quite a few it seems. I love the scrappy version of the new one and I agree with everyone else that even though they are the same in that they are medallions they are each different in looks and each is great. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what you do next. Mary

Gosh, for me these are inspiring and get me thinking! Look how you can do the same basic thing and yet make it different. That's really being able to think and get creative. I dig that.

Well, that sounds like a challenge to me *s* Looks like I'm going to have to order myself up a pattern and get busy!

I think they all look very different! A medallion quilt is a medallion quilt. :-)

Love your scrappy medallion quilt. It looks so different to the toile one. I certainly don't think your quilts all look the same. Love the cute little boats on the Homeport one.

Once I find a pattern/format that works for me, I like to repeat it again and again in various forms. Works for me and it certainly looks like it works for you - all of your madallion quilts are lovely! My Mom used to say "REALLY!!!" when someone said something she didn't like/agree with - I think it would work in your case instead of trying to defend yourself - nothing to defend!

Cheers!

Catching up with everyone . . .

Just goes to show that many people don't look very closely at a quilt. The look long enough to get a general feeling for it, and then move on. They certainly look like three different quilts to me!
