SUNNY SHORES

Well, summer is over! Today is September first. We had quite a storm today. The "not quite a hurricane" called Ernesto swept through with tons of rain and 65 mph winds. Some people lost power. Luckily we did not. We really needed the rain, but not to the point of flooding! Our house is at the end of a street that slopes off the beach road, so all the water runs into our yard. We had several inches of water sitting in our yard for a while. Our yard is primarily sand, so eventually it soaks all the water up without a problem. It is kind of exciting to watch a storm, as long as it is from a dry, safe spot. I am grateful that it wasn't a bad one. As a tribute to the summer that is now gone, I am posting pictures of a quilt I call Sunny Shores. I completed this quilt two years ago. I like to make quilts with fun borders, and as you can see, I had fun with this one! Towards the end I was really digging through my stash for yellow and the right shades of blue to complete the quilt. That made me happy because I really had a lot of yellow and blue. I still have plenty, but the stash took a hit with this quilt. The Delectable Mountains are Delectable Waves, in this case. However, I think I like my little bouncing stars the best!

  1. I really like this - great borders. I have the hardest time with borders... I can never think of anything original or neat looking!

  3. Gosh - I have a hard enough time finishing a top with 1 border so I am very impressed with your multiple pieced borders. The little stars are my favorite too.

Stay safe and dry. Hopefully there won't be such terrible storms up along the coast this year...

    Cheers!

  5. Glad you weathered the storm. Mom called me a little while ago to say her phone service is out so to call her cell and that my brother lost power but other than that they're OK too. I'm back in VA on Monday - Mom's having her 2nd cataract surgery.

  6. Glad you are okay, Marcie. I've been wondering about our group on the Eastern Seaboard.

What a gorgeous quilt! One that you designed? The soft yellows and blue are wonderful. Well done.

  10. What a great quilt! I love all that is going on. I always chicken out with things this involved-afraid I will get bogged down or exhaust my skill level. One day I'll have to get brave! (had to delte my first attempt due to big old typo!)

  13. I'm so glad none of you down south suffered from this storm that could have been a hurricane. I hope and pray the rest of the stormy season is the same. Your Sunny Shores quilt is wonderful! I love fancy pieced borders, and love the way you made your stars dance!

  14. I'm glad you came through the storm unscathed. I don't think my nerves could stand living anywhere near a coast. That is a beautiful quilt, and you are right, the borders look like so much fun.

  15. Hi, Marcie, your house and location sound pretty; the 65mph winds must have been pretty impressive, though. Atlanta got some much-needed rain and a brief lightening of the constant dread humidity: only time that happens is when somebody's having a big storm/hurricane. Amazing borders on your gorgeous quilt!
